POWERFUL STATE LEGISLATORS ENDORSE
ARLIE RICASA FOR 78TH ASSEMBLY DISTRICT SEAT

Senator Ducheny, Senator Kehoe and
Assemblymember Salas Endorse Arlie Ricasa

(San Diego, CA) – In a major boost to Arlie Ricasa’s campaign for the 78th Assembly District seat, three influential state legislators from San Diego announced their endorsements of Arlie Ricasa.

State Senator Denise Moreno Ducheny, State Senator Christine Kehoe and Assemblymember Mary Salas declared their support for Ricasa for her 2008 election bid.  Ricasa, President of the Sweetwater Union High School District (SUHSD) School Board, is the only candidate to receive all three legislators’ endorsements.  Ricasa is seeking to replace current Assemblymember Shirley Horton who is set to vacate the seat in 2008 due to term limits.  All three legislators currently represent a portion or surrounding areas of the 78th district.

“I am honored to have the support and endorsements from these three local women warriors who serve in the state legislature with distinction, passion and tenacity,” said Ricasa, the most senior-ranking and only one of two Filipino American elected officials in San Diego County.

Senator Ducheny (SD-40), Chair of the powerful Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee and the Joint Legislative Budget Committee, represents a major portion of the 78th District.

“Arlie Ricasa is the only candidate I am endorsing in the 78th Assembly District race.  Arlie is an inspirational leader who has proven she can bring together diverse people and get things done.  She is an effective leader who will make Sacramento legislators be more responsive to the needs of the 78th District,” Senator Ducheny said.

Senator Kehoe (SD-39), the first woman from San Diego to be Assembly Speaker Pro Tempore prior to being elected to the State Senate, has a legislative record that includes carrying the largest energy conservation package in the state’s history and the most important redevelopment reform bill in more than a decade.

“Arlie Ricasa is a seasoned leader who will hit the ground running as soon as she gets in the state legislature.  Arlie is an articulate, bright and passionate public servant who will shake up the status quo and get things done for her district,” said Kehoe.

Assemblymember Salas (AD-79), Chair of the Assembly’s Veterans Affairs Committee and a former Chula Vista City Councilmember, earned her seat in the State Assembly by defeating opponents who outspent her by hundreds of thousands of dollars during her election.

“Arlie Ricasa is the only candidate who I endorse for the 78th Assembly District seat.  Arlie is a ‘people-person’ who truly cares about our communities, residents, families and their children.  Her strong leadership and public policy experience, coupled with her ability to work well with diverse constituencies, give her a distinct advantage that will make her an effective legislator,” said Assemblymember Salas.

Ricasa, who earned her master’s degree from San Diego State University and bachelor’s degree from UCLA, is currently serving her third term on the SUHSD School Board, the largest secondary school district in California, and making public policy that impacts a major portion of the 78th Assembly District.

The 78th Assembly District includes the cities and areas of Chula Vista, San Diego, Lemon Grove, Bonita and Spring Valley.
