Arlie Ricasa is a Trustee and immediate past-President of the Sweetwater Union High School District (SUHSD) Board of Trustees.  She was first elected to the School Board in 1998 by defeating a seven-term incumbent.  In 2006, Arlie Ricasa was re-elected to serve a third term for SUHSD, the largest secondary school system in California.  Arlie is a policy-maker for a school district with over 74,000 students, 5,400 employees and a $325 million budget.

In her election campaigns, Arlie received endorsements from many Democratic and Independent leaders.  She was endorsed by numerous elected officials that included members of Congress, State Senate, State Assembly, County Board of Supervisors, City Councils and local School Boards.  She also earned the endorsements of the California Democratic Party as well as various labor, small business and community leaders.  She was a Gore Delegate at the National Convention.

Arlie Ricasa currently serves as the Director of Student Development at Southwestern College in the City of Chula Vista.  A product of SUHSD schools, Arlie earned her Masters in Science degree at San Diego State University and Bachelor’s of Arts degree at UCLA.  She is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.

Arlie has decades of community service and volunteer work.  Arlie is a member of the Board of Directors for the Chula Vista Police Activities League and MAAC Project of San Diego County.  She served in the San Diego Asian Pacific Islander Alliance, Filipino American Educators Association of San Diego County, and California School Boards Association.  She was former President of the San Diego County School Boards Association and served on the Board of Directors for the South Bay Family YMCA.

Arlie Ricasa holds the distinction of being the senior-ranking Filipino American elected official in San Diego County. Arlie Ricasa was honored as one of the “Twenty Outstanding Filipino Americans in the United States and Canada.”  She also received various awards and recognitions that included “Outstanding Professional of the Year”, “UCLA Distinguished Alumnus of the Year”, “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers”, “Who’s Who Among America’s Collegiate Faculty”,  “Tribute to Women in Industry” and S.D. Business Journal’s “Women Who Mean Business” nominee.

Born, raised, educated and employed in the communities she represents, Arlie has life-long roots that have provided her lasting community relationships and “home grown” perspectives.  Her late father was a retired U.S. Navy man and her late mother was a former educator and homemaker.  Arlie resides in Bonita with her husband, Ed, and their five children.  Seven of her nine siblings and their families reside in the South Bay and San Diego areas.
